Australian Taxation. This website is a comprehensive site on all aspects of Australian federal taxation law. It includes, but is not limited to, general advice, forms, legislation, and links to other related sites. Very useful for anyone, whether resident or overseas, wanting to study Australian federal taxation.
State Taxation. Some taxes are levied under state legislation. Click on the links below to find out about the taxes in each state:
Competition. The government body that enforces the Australian federal Trade Practices Act is the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). Its authority is based on the federal government’s constitutional power over trading corporations. It performs a similar function with trading corporations that the states do with other businesses (see state links below).
Corporate Law. This is the website of the Australian corporate law regulator, who administers federal laws governing trading corporations. The same body also administers laws for the financial services industry. The site provides lists of companies, persons authorised to deal in securities, prohibited persons and much other material. A must for anyone wanting to study Australian corporate or financial law.
In Australia, although there is some overlap with federal powers, generally the states and territories have responsibility for consumer protection and non-trading corporations. Each state has its own legislation and a website, listed as follows:
Scams. This is part of the above corporate law website and can be accessed from that. We have listed it separately because it is virtually a “website within a website”. Loaded with heaps of useful advice on recognising and dealing with scams and scamsters, it should be compulsory reading to anyone wanting to keep their money for their own benefit. On this website can be found lists of people and organisations who operate scams and true stories of Australian residents who have suffered from scams and others who were clever enough not to be deceived by shonksters. Although primarily designed to protect Australian residents, it is useful also to non-residents because the scamsters do not recognise international boundaries. There are also some more scams in the state links above, and some more on a very good United States site – click here.
MYOB. In Australia this is the most popular brand of accounting software for small to medium business enterprises. This website tells you about each type of MYOB software and other services.
Quicken. Also very popular accounting software, this website is about the services and products provided by Quicken Australia.
